Ceramic Coating FAQ

How Should I Wash My Car After Ceramic Coating?

Washing a ceramic coated car requires some care to maintain its protective qualities and glossy appearance. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to wash a ceramic coated car effectively:

Materials Needed:

  • Car wash shampoo (pH-neutral)

  • Two buckets (one for shampoo mixture, one for rinsing)

  • Grit guards (to prevent dirt from being transferred back to the car)

  • Microfiber wash mitts or soft sponge

  • Microfiber towels or drying towels

  • Hose or pressure washer (optional)

  • Car drying aid or quick detailer (optional)

Step-by-Step Washing Process:

  1. Prepare Your Washing Area:

    • Park your car in a shaded area, away from direct sunlight.

    • Ensure the car's surface is cool to the touch.

  2. Rinse the Car:

    • If using a hose or pressure washer, rinse the entire car thoroughly to remove loose dirt and contaminants. This helps prevent scratching during the washing process.

  3. Mix Shampoo:

    • Fill one bucket with clean water and add the recommended amount of pH-neutral car wash shampoo. Mix the solution gently.

  4. Two-Bucket Washing Method:

    • Fill the second bucket with clean water and place a grit guard at the bottom. This grit guard helps trap dirt and prevents it from being reintroduced to the wash mitt.

    • Dunk your wash mitt into the shampoo mixture, ensuring it’s saturated with soapy water.

  5. Wash the Car:

    • Start washing the car from the top and work your way down, using gentle pressure and overlapping strokes. Rinse the wash mitt frequently in the clean water bucket and reapply shampoo as needed.

    • Avoid using circular motions which can potentially induce swirl marks. Instead, use straight lines or a gentle back-and-forth motion.

  6. Rinse Thoroughly:

    • Once the car is fully washed, thoroughly rinse off all shampoo residue with clean water. Make sure no soap remains on the surface.

  7. Dry the Car:

    • Use a clean, soft microfiber towel or drying towel to dry the car. Pat dry gently without rubbing to avoid scratching the ceramic coating.

    • If preferred, you can use a car drying aid or quick detailer spray on the towel to aid drying and enhance gloss.

  8. Final Touches:

    • Inspect the car’s surface to ensure it’s clean and dry. Pay attention to areas like door jambs, side mirrors, and around badges where water may collect.

Additional Tips:

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Use only pH-neutral car wash shampoos and avoid acidic or alkaline cleaners that can degrade the ceramic coating.

  • Regular Maintenance: Wash your ceramic coated car regularly to remove contaminants promptly and maintain its protective layer.

  • Use Quality Products: Invest in good quality microfiber towels and wash mitts to minimize the risk of scratching the coating.

  • Professional Detailing: Periodically consider professional detailing services to maintain and rejuvenate the ceramic coating as needed.

By following these steps and maintaining regular washing practices, you can keep your ceramic coated car looking glossy and protected for an extended period.
